Walking Weekends is (are?) coming up in the northeastern part of the state. October 5-8 and 12-14, there are tons of organized walks all over the area, most of which focus on nature or history. There's a list here - http://www.thelastgreenvalley.org/ww.html. I've enjoyed the ones I've been on in the past. Try one (or more) if you have a chance.

Hiking question
I don't know if this post is appropriate for this community as I wasn't sure if this community is only for "hiking meet-ups" but I figured since we're all avid hikers here, I may be able to get some information.

Are any of you familiar with Devils Den in Weston or "the cascades" in Easton, possibly Redding? My friend and I are planning a hiking trip for tomorrow and I've always been interested in the two locations listed above but we know very little about either of those locations. If you are familiar with "the cascades" I would love directions that area. Also we've been visiting Connecticut State Parks a lot but are hoping to find more "off the beaten path" forests with hiking and possibly a secret lake/quarry/river we'd be able to take a dip in but won't necessarily have to leave the trail and go to a public swimming area to do so. Less public/less traffic is what we're looking for and anything with a story behind the area, caves, Etc. We are very outdoorsy and love a challenge. Any suggestions and information would be great!

hikes on Sunday

I know it's Father's Day, but not all of us have dads still around to spend time with, so I'm organizing two hikes on Sunday.  Anyone is welcome to one or both.

Details can be found here:

National Trails Day
The Connecticut Forest and Parks Association web site lists over 125 hikes for this weekend.  Saturday is National Trails Day, but Connecticut has so many hikes, that they have spread them over Saturday and Sunday.  There's bound to be one near each of us!

Here's a link to their brochure with all the hikes...

Saturday is apparently national hiking day.
Some of you had asked about other hikes going on this weekend.

As it turns out, there are quite a few.

This comment was left in response to the kickoff meeting announcement:

There are already dozens of hikes going on Saturday, though one more certainly can't hurt.

Resources for hikers include:

Hartford Area Hiking Meetup -- http://hiking.meetup.com/151/

AMC hikes -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ctamc-eor-midweek/
